NGC 2359--Thor's Helmet. NGC 2359 is a difficult object for me. It emerges from trees to skim my neighbor's rooftop and I have about an hour of decent imaging time. The nebula, in Canis Major, is powered by Wolf-Rayet star WR7. Wolf-rayet stars are immensely hot and are thought to be in a pre-supernova stage. The distorted shape of the nebula is due to intense stellar winds interacting with the nearby molecular cloud, giving the object is distinctive shape.
