The Horsehead with the RASA. Originally Published January 30, 2022

The Horsehead and Flame Nebulas. These nebulas are a part of the enormous Orion Molecular Cloud. This is an area of star formation in dense clouds of dust and gas. The bright spots at the base of the Horsehead are young stars in the process of formation. This image was taken 5 days ago using an NBZ filter, which filters out all but light from energized hydrogen and oxygen. Without this filter, the Horsehead is very difficult to see when imaged.
