Cosmic Tadpoles! IC 410 is a dusty emission nebula close to the Flaming Star nebula and part of the same star-forming region. The NGC1893 star cluster lies at the center of the nebula. The cluster is very young--only about 4 million years old and consists of massive, hot stars at the beginning of their lives. The Tadpoles, which give the nebula its name, can be seen at around the 1-2 o'clock position in this image. They appear to be swimming through this dense cloud.
The trials, tribulations and small triumphs of a Charlotte, NC astronomer imaging under Bortle 8/9 skies.
