IC 1396

A recent superb image of IC 1396 by a friend on another group inspired me to revisit my own image again. While I can't reach his standard with this one, it's not too bad (although dithering problems resulted in some walking noise on the image). This object, also known as the Elephant Trunk Nebula, is one of my favorites. In this region, very young stars, some as young as 100,000 years, are forming. The cavity at the top of the trunk as been carved out by two older (but still very young) stars.
