Did I Image an Optical Jet in the Rosette Nebula. First Published 03/11/2022

An Optical Jet in the Rosette Nebula. Although there are many images of star forming regions—several have been imaged at the CSO—it’s unusual to see a YSO (Young Stellar Object). In 2003, astronomers using the 0.9m telescope at Kitt Peak found such an object. The imaged object has a stable jet extending for more than 8,000 Astronomical Units (one AU is 150 million km). The Kitt Peak image of the jet and its location enables us amateurs to see if we have captured it on our images. My thought is that maybe one image here shows the jet—much more faintly that the Kitt Peak image, of course, but I think it is there and not just wishful thinking! On the highly cropped/zoomed image below, I have ringed the area in question, and the star appears to show the jet faintly extending towards to 1-2 o’clock position. Is it in the image below? Take a look at this image and the one online (Google “Rosette Jet”) and make your own mind up :)

16 hour integration of the Heart Nebula with the Dwarf 3 telescope

The Heart Nebula can be a challenging object due to its low surface brightness, especially in my neighborhood where I image under Bortle 8/9...
